Interest in tea is at an all-time high. It is the darling of the wellness world. The ceremony of afternoon tea is a refined pleasure that dates back centuries. It was invented by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford (1783-1857), a lady-in-waiting for Queen Victoria. In just a few decades, the custom of taking tea in the afternoon had become well established. Afternoon tea is experienced throughout America in elegant hotels, quaint shops, and tea parlors as a way to regroup and refresh, especially around the holidays.

A
day spent enjoying the cultural treasures of the Natchitoches
area wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Keegan-Cook House
for gracious afternoon tea. Since opening in September 2004, the
tea room has established itself as not only a peaceful sanctuary
for local shoppers and business people, but has proved equally
popular with bed and breakfast enthusiasts. Our Tea Room is
perfect for an intimate gathering of friends, mothers and
daughters or for business meetings.
Today afternoon tea has become an elegant affair which is less a working class meal than an event. Having High or Low tea with family, friends or clients offers a soothing and relaxing atmosphere where one can enjoy quiet conversation. There are so many reasons these days to have tea. Birthdays, anniversaries, bridal showers, baby showers, housewarming parties, wedding receptions, first dates, or a treat for out of town visitors. The possibilities are endless.
A quiet relaxing
escape is yours for the asking at the Keegan-Cook House whether it
be for an elegant afternoon tea or a wonderful weekend stay in one
of our lovely
rooms
or suites.
Reservations
are required for the Tea Room. Menu highlights include fragrant
local teas and savory foods such as sandwiches, scones or
tea-cakes. Iced tea or coffee is also
available.

We also offer "etiquette" teas which are
a
wonderful way to return to the rules of society and refresh us
in the way of proper manners. If afternoon tea is fairly new
to you some of tea time social rules
can seem somewhat dated, but what a lovely
way to return to the manners of our forefathers and the
courtesy that afternoon tea inspires.
We have had so many
requests from people wanting to learn how to properly prepare
and serve a high tea that we are now offering our popular
"High Time For Tea" classes. Here you will learn the
guidelines for brewing the perfect pot of tea as well as the
preparation and presentation of the meal itself. These classes
last approximately two hours and will have you racing home to
invite friends and family to tea. Cost: $30 per person.
In
the mood for a girl friend get-away? Book your rooms and
request the Slumber Party Tea Package. When you check
in you will be given a tour of the house by your hostess who
will also provide you with information about sites of interest
in the area. At 6:00 PM an English High Tea will be served to
your party. Bring a hat and do it up right, or you can borrow
one of ours! After spending the night in your beautiful and
spacious room, you will wake up to a delightful
Southern Breakfast served in
our sunny breakfast room.
